"Damage increases with range. Keep your distance for maximum power."
—Unused description
Ranger is an unused weapon from Cuphead. It would likely have been obtained through purchasing it in Porkrind's Emporium.
Strategy[]
The Ranger was shown in the E3 2014 trailer for Cuphead, having a circular shape that fire straight out of the finger gun, and having two sharp explosion effects every time it hits an enemy. However, it was scrapped during development.
In the game, it takes on a placeholder of a round, dark red circle with a black outline, and will suddenly expand upon impact as it explodes (thus the development name Exploder). In version 1.3+, the Ranger graphics has been updated, it uses the generic bullet used by Zeppeling as placeholder and the explosion is now a purple-ish cloud with black outline. As the projectile gets farther, it increases in size slightly, dealing more damage and having a bigger explosion the farther it hits an enemy from (thus the name Ranger).
EX: Risky Burst - Fires a small-sized bullet, identical in design to the regular projectile, but immediately creates a huge explosion upon impact. It bounces off the hitbox or side of the screen once and can deal damage to the player if not dodged. In version 1.3+, the ricocheted bullet becomes pink and can be parried. It does refund a Super Meter card but does not count for the parry count scoring at the end screen.
