Botanic Panic! is a level on Inkwell Isle One, where the fight with The Root Pack takes place. It is represented on the map by a small fenced vegetable farm. This is one of the three initially available levels along with Forest Follies and Ruse Of An Ooze.

Location

The location of Botanic Panic! is the down left of Porkrind's Emporium. It is fairly easy to spot. You do not need to defeat other bosses in Inkwell Isle One to get to the garden. However, once you beat Botanic Panic!, you can get to Clip Joint Calamity.

Stage

The background has a blue sky with moving clouds. There is a tree with a rubber tire swing tied on a branch and a bird house close to the tree. Two bunches of sunflowers are behind the garden fence. There are crops in the field with a shovel and a bag of fertilizer lying near the road on which you battle The Root Pack, and on the right side, a rake is leaning on the fence. In the foreground, there is a bit of fence in the bottom-left of the screen, with more flowers and a watering can in the bottom-right.

Strategy

Recommended

  • The level will be fairly easy once you get used to the patterns and, especially, the controls.
  • It's recommended to use Spread, and keep Peashooter on hand.

Phases

MoetatoIcon

"Buttered, smashed, and mashed. It's over for you."
Moe Tato, Death screen

Before the battle, Moe Tato will burst out of the ground. He bursts at the right side of the screen.

Moe Tato only has one attack, which is shooting dirtballs and worms out of his mouth in a horizontal line. Simply jump over the dirt balls. Note that the worm at the end of the round of dirt balls is always pink, so the player can parry it for extra filling in the super meter. However, they must have good timing to succeed parrying, otherwise they will take damage. In Regular Mode, the speed increases after every round of dirt balls, especially the third round. Continue jumping and going left as fast as you can and dashing when needed. Note that EX Moves are useless here.

There are no recommendations for this phase: just simply use whatever shot you want.

After damaging Moe Tato enough, he'll rub his face in pain with bumps all over him. Then he'll go back into the ground, triggering the next phase: Weepy. Though in Simple Mode, after defeating Moe Tato, you proceed to fight Psycarrot. This is the only time in Cuphead that the final phase of a boss is played in Simple Mode.

WeepyIcon

"Hey little guy, it's O.K. if you have to cry!"
Weepy, Death screen

This phase isn't fought in Simple Mode. This is the only time where the second phase of a boss is skipped in Simple Mode.

After defeating Moe Tato, you'll proceed to fight Weepy. Weepy will pop out of the ground in the middle of the screen, shaking some dirt off of his nose. He looks very happy. But then, he starts looking around, worried, then proceeds to do his only attack: crying.

Tears will fall and hurt the player, with some of them being parryable. You don't have to do anything but move around to dodge these tears. It is recommended not to parry the tears in your first playthrough since you could recieve damage from a normal tear above. Remember, keep shooting and keep focused.

Once again, there are no recommendations for this phase, so use whatever shot you want.

After damaging Weepy enough, he'll be shown with skin falling off and a sad expression. He'll then go back into the ground. Then the next phase: Psycarrot, commences

PsycarrotIcon

"I'm lean, mean and full of beta-carotene."
Psycarrot, Death screen

After defeating Weepy, you'll have to fight Psycarrot. Psycarrot will pop out of the ground, but unlike the other members of the Root Pack, he'll appear in the background. Note that to damage Psycarrot, you'll have to shoot upwards.

Psycarrot has two attacks in this phase:

  • His first attack isn't really a direct attack. Throughout this phase, carrots will fly around, homing in on the players. It is recommended that the player(s) shoot them all down before the psychic beams in order to survive easily. The best strategy is to move yourself right under each carrot so you'll only have to shoot upwards, as aiming diagonally is initially tricky to do. In case any carrot is almost at the ground and still aiming at you, change your direction straight toward it.
  • Psycarrot's next attack is more direct. Psycarrot will stop and open his third eye, then proceed to shoot psychic beams out of it. The psychic beams are fairly easy to dodge once you've destroyed all the carrots. Simply keep moving around since the psychic beams also have a homing effect. Keep holding your direction upward to damage Psycarrot.

There are no shot recommendations, so just use whatever fits you. But Psycarrot will take a lot of damage, so be sure to continuously aim the EX Move at him to have him defeated quickly.

After taking enough damage, Psycarrot proceeds to pull on his leaves with a sad/disappointed look. But he could be mad at himself for being defeated. You can take it as a sign that the battle has ended.

Trivia

  • The term "Botanic" refers to the word "Botany", which is the study of Plantlife
  • In the background, the player can see a fertilizer bag with “ACME Grow” on it. This is a reference to the ACME company from Looney Tunes.
  • As shown in this video, Botanic Panic! used to have the music of Clip Joint Calamity.
